Check the stop sequence toward Gyeongpo Beach. Walk from the alighting stop to the beach entrance. Do not confuse this stop with the separate stop named 강문해변.

Gangmun Beach entrance → Kyobo Life
Use the opposite-direction stop ID. This route passes 강릉역건너편 (4200293) before Kyobo Life; alight at Kyobo Life for the market walk. If skipping the market, alight at 강릉역건너편 and walk to the station.

Sinyoung Cinema → Gangneung Station
Walk from the market to Sinyoung Cinema stop. The published sequence is Sinyoung Cinema → Gangneung Girls’ High School → Okcheon 119 Safety Center → Gangneung Station. Do not choose a stop merely because it is across from Kyobo Life.
Budget the three rides separately
Adult standard city bus: ₩1,530 by transit card or ₩1,700 cash. Three separately charged rides total ₩4,590 by card (₩5,100 cash), excluding KTX, food, storage and taxi. The official transfer rule allows two transfers within one hour after alighting, excluding the same route number, with a transit card and an exit tap; a long beach or market stay may not qualify. This budget assumes no transfer discount.

Market departure target: at least 60 minutes before KTX. Station arrival target: at least 30 minutes before KTX. For an 18:00 train, that means leaving the market by 17:00 and reaching the station by 17:30. These are editorial planning buffers, not operator guarantees. Add the live bus wait + ride estimate + both walks; depart earlier if that total exceeds 30 minutes.
From the beach, protect the station first: allow a larger margin and skip the market if the live estimate threatens the train. Compare a taxi pickup and arrival estimate before switching; taxis are not guaranteed. No fixed ride time, taxi fare or final bus is claimed here.

Weekend and evening KTX seats can sell out. Buy both directions together and treat the return departure as the fixed edge of the day.
Gangneung Station is the control point. On arrival, save the platform time, local boarding point and one taxi estimate before leaving the station area.

02 · FIRST MILE
Use live bus information, not an old route number
Local routes and intervals can change. Search the exact beach and save both the outbound stop and the stop that returns toward Jungang Market or Gangneung Station.
If the bus gap becomes longer than the time you can lose, shorten one segment by taxi. The fallback works best when decided before the delay happens.
03 · COAST
One beach is enough for a day trip
Gangmun gives you a compact beach walk, cafés and a clear route back downtown. Adding Gyeongpo and Anmok creates more waiting than sightseeing.
In wind, rain or summer heat, shorten the sand walk and use an indoor café. Never approach a breakwater or controlled shoreline in rough conditions.
04 · MARKET & RETURN
Turn the market into the final decision point
Jungang Market combines food, restrooms and a practical place to check the station journey. Store hours vary by vendor, so save two or three food options rather than one famous stall.
Leave the market at least 60 minutes before the train and target station arrival at least 30 minutes early. These are editorial planning margins, not a bus timetable. If the next bus no longer protects the ticket, use the prepared taxi fallback instead of adding another stop.
